About me

I am passionate about normal childbirth, which is why I am supporting a midwife who is organising Dundee Birth Choices. It is important to us that women make informed choices regarding their own circumstances and we aim to help women in Dundee, and surrounding areas, to access the right information to enable them to make their own choices. As in my role as a Doula, we will NOT give advice or make clinical decisions. We will offer emotional support and point women in the direction of further information.

I am a lay member of the Angus Maternity Services Liaison Committee and, as such, attend the Labour Ward Forum at Ninewells.

In March 2008 I started as a trained, volunteer Breastfeeding Peer Supporter on the postnatal wards at Ninewells. We work with the midwives and Infant Feeding Advisors to offer support to new mums to get breastfeeding established. Having breastfed my own children until fully weaned, I can offer an understanding of the issues involved.

in 2007 I attended a Study Day with the great Jean Sutton who talked about her Optimal Foetal Positioning theories.

I am very interested in Alternative Therapies and have built up a fairly large range of essential oils through my interest in Aromatherapy. Homoeopathy is also important to me and so I have attended a Study Day in 2008 with Lyssa Clayton Dip Hom Ed (ECH) and Rebecca Preston RSHom, PCH, followed up by a second day focusing more on Childbirth issues and Matridonal remedies led by Linda Gwillim.

Having supported women in labour who have employed Hypnotherapy techniques I understand, and I am very happy to work with, women who wish to use this as part of their coping strategy
